My father-in-law aged 77 had undergone procedure called Transurethral Resection of the prostate (TURP).?

This was done against difficulty in passing urine related to enlarged prostate gland. Now urine is passing without difficulty but manytimes ,without his willing and intention, urine is passed unknowingly and he comes to know that when cloth is wet with urine. Can anyone kindly say why this happens and what is the treatment.

To get all the information and pictures to explain all you want to know about TURP and many other things, go to WebMD.com. Hope the site helps you but be sure your Dad let his doctor know about the unaware incontinence.

My great uncle had exactly the same operation and condition afterwards.
He first tried adult nappies, then he used a penile clip that fitted around the penis to stop involentuary flow but later decided to have a device fitted to his urinary passage that acts as a valve. This is a prosthesis that is fitted to the inside of his body and is unseen from without. It has a pipe leading from the bladder in to the penis and is fitted with a tap of sorts that is hidden under the skin where his pubic hair is about. When he wants to pee, he pushes the valve open and it flows out, but he cannot really "feel" that he has to go pee, and he can never have intercorse again.

Many men who have prostate surgery will find themselves with loss of bladder control. There are options: some are pads, diapers, drugs or more surgery. Many men opt for the incontinence clamp. Check out the website http://www.dribblestop.com.
The clamp has only been on the market for about 5 years but we feel it surpases other clamps that have been around for years. New concept – new idea – new approach to an old problem. Hope this information helps you.
