Our Greatest Wealth is Health: BPH Treatment

Posted by: admin  :  Category: BPH treatment

“Health is wealth” is a saying that rings true with a lot of people.  However, some people find themselves facing conditions that they would rather not have to deal with.  One condition that affects over 50% of men over the age of 60 is benign prostatic hyperplasia, of BPH.  And just like any other condition, BPH treatment is available.  Treatment options range from non-invasive methods such as medication and out patient Cooled ThermoTherapy to surgery.  If you find that your health is not as you would like it to be, talk with your doctor and make the changes necessary to restore yourself.

Cooled ThermoTherapyTM is available by prescription only.  This therapy is not for everyone.  Talk to your physician to see if Cooled ThermoTherapy is right for you. Most medical procedures may have side effects. Possible side effects for Cooled ThermoTherapy include blood in urine, clots in urine, painful or difficult urination, thickened bladder muscle, rectal irritation, temporary inability to control urination, brief inability to achieve or maintain swelling of the male organ and the inability to discharge semen at climax, thus should be considered by men who wish to have further offspring. A small risk of urethral stricture may result requiring further intervention. Patients may experience discomfort during the procedure that may require the use of analgesics or sedatives. Patients may be catheterized for a 2 to 5 day period following the treatment.1  For more complete information about the benefits and risks associated with Cooled ThermoTherapy please refer to the Instructions for Use found on our website at www.cooledthermotherapy.com or call us at 1.800.475.1403.

Holmium Enucleation of the Prostate with Mechnical Morcellation

Posted by: admin  :  Category: BPH treatment

HoLEP (Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate)

Lumenis has partnered with key luminaries to provide world-class training centers for urologists to learn this breakthrough technique firsthand from the experts. Live surgical demonstrations feature both the high-power VersaPulse PowerSuite Holmium laser and the VersaCut tissue morcellator, giving surgeons a clinical edge with this remarkable technology.

Here’s what the experts have to say about holmium laser treatment for BPH:

“The HoLEP has replaced standard TURP completely and unreservedly in our hospital. There is nothing out there that has been shown to be better.”

Peter Gilling, MD, Consulting Urologist at Tauranga Hospital, Tauranga, New Zealand and holmium laser prostatectomy pioneer

“Use of the Ho:YAG laser for treatment of BPH is an important new technique that offers significant advantages over TURP….In a phrase, HoLEP compared with TURP provides ‘maximal benefit with minimal morbidity’….I would envision that every significant urology department will have a holmium laser at their disposal. It is a basic tool for stones and BPH, two of the most common conditions urologists treat.”

Help for enlarged prostate sufferers

Posted by: admin  :  Category: enlarged prostate

This video, narrated by This Morning GP Dr Chris Steele, looks into BPH and hears from those who suffer from it.

Prostate UK is launching a campaign to raise awareness of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland. BPH affects more than a third of men aged over 50 years, equating to around 3.2 million men in the UK, most of whom suffer in silence. The campaign is being unveiled at a parliamentary reception in the House of Commons, which the charity is hosting with funding from GlaxoSmithKline UK Limited (GSK).

The campaign has two key objectives. The first is to encourage men to seek medical advice for unexplained urinary symptoms rather than assuming they are a normal part of ageing. The second is to ensure that where appropriate, BPH is managed by GPs in the primary care setting in order to treat it earlier and minimise costly surgical interventions.

Affects Your Quality of Life: Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

Benign prostatic hyperplasia can affect the quality of your life and how you plan out your day.  When ever you go anywhere new in your daily life you are on the look out for the nearest bathroom.  Frequent urination is now a fact of life and when you need to go you need to go.  So you do not want, at that time, to be searching for the bathroom.  So now everywhere you go you make sure you know the location of the nearest bathroom.   Your benign prostatic hyperplasia has now changed your quality of life.  Instead of concentrating on your grandchild’s up coming at bat in little league you now have to decide if you can hold out until the child bats.

Cooled ThermoTherapyTM is available by prescription only.  This therapy is not for everyone.  Talk to your physician to see if Cooled ThermoTherapy is right for you.
